Welcome to Birch Class. Please see important information about our weekly routines below.

Outdoor Learning: On Fridays the children spend the whole morning outside, usually in Wonder Woods. Please make sure your child comes to school wearing warm, outdoor clothes during the colder months. The more layers, the better! Children will need to bring their School Uniform to school in a named bag, to change into afterwards.

You will be kept updated regularly about any changes or additional information via Class Dojo. If you have misplaced your login, please see me and I will get a new one issued.

What are we learning this term?

This term our topic is “From Farm to Fork”. We launched the topic with a tractor coming to visit us at school. We all really enjoyed sitting in it and beeping the loud horn! Please take a look at the document section to find the areas we will be covering for each subject linked to this topic. To help the children enhance their learning around this topic the children have a list of challenges they can complete at home as homework. We are excited to see their hard work and look forward to them sharing it with the class. Extra work completed for the challenge list will be rewarded with stickers and dojo points. Please also find the challenge list below.

Birch class P.E sessions are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure that children have their P.E kits in school. Long hair must be tied back and earrings need to be removed. The P.E kit needs to include tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, sweatshirt and trainers for outdoor P.E. Indoor P.E. just requires additional shorts. The children will not require plimsolls as gymnastics and dance will be taught in bare feet.

Spelling tests will take place on Mondays and new spellings will be given out on Tuesdays depending on the score and application of the spelling in their writing. Children will have the opportunity to practice their spellings in school throughout the week and is important these are also practiced at home to help the children progress further in their learning. Please ensure that children bring their spellings books into school each day to help facilitate regular practice at school. First set of spellings will be given out on Tuesday 17th September with the first test being Monday 23rd September.

Children have now been given new reading diaries and books. Reading should happen daily at home and children read regularly at school with an adult, where comments and progress will be recorded in their reading diaries. To help build children’s fluency and understanding of the story they are reading, it is important that children re-read the same book more than once to aid this skill. This will also help build up fluency of reading common exception words such as; and, this, have. Reading diaries will be collected on Monday and children who have read four or more times at home will be celebrated by being placed on the “Readers of the Week” poster and stickers in their reading diaries.

I am always available to discuss any questions, queries or concerns you have at any point, please come and see me after school or a quick touch base in the mornings if needed.
