Reading

Developing a love of reading and a rich, deep understanding of language and vocabulary is a key factor in our learning, development and future success.

At Mistley Norman C of E Primary School, we place a strong emphasis on the importance of reading and believe that reading is a valuable and rewarding experience, underpinning all learning.

We aim to inspire our children to become fluent, confident and enthusiastic readers and to acquire a love of books.

Home learning

As part of our home learning programme, we expect our children to read at least 4x weekly with an adult at home. Every class has a ‘reading challenge’ chart displayed where children can receive a star each time they complete their 4 reads – the class with the highest reading percentage is shared in celebration assembly and they win an extra playtime.
